Milton’s Cottage Museum
Milton’s Cottage Trust (CIO) 1163039 Chalfont St Giles, Bucks
Business Director
Milton’s Cottage, situated in the lovely Buckinghamshire village of Chalfont St Giles, some 50 minutes from Central London, is the only surviving home of John Milton (1608-1674), one of England’s greatest poets and parliamentarians. The cottage is now a museum of his work and times. Milton’s Cottage Trust (CIO) is a charity dedicated to preserving this remarkable piece of history.
A number of grant giving bodies have supported us including Heritage Lottery Fund, The Foyle Foundation, The B H Breslauer Foundation Inc of New York, The Pilgrim Trust and Friends of the National Libraries together with the Biffa Waste Fund.
The Trustees wish to embrace a broad and commercial role for the individual who will manage the Museum and its activities. This is a new position working with a nominated Trustee. This individual will be expected to promote and market the Cottage to prospective visitors to increase ‘footfall’ as well as orchestrate the financial development and income generation in order to substantially increase the income to the Cottage. Legacy income, trust and foundation support, and individual gifts will be central to the future of Milton’s Cottage.
Donor potential is considered significant, both in the UK as well as the US from Legacies, Trusts and Foundations and individuals. Building relationships via social media will also be an important new facet of this work.
Ideally this would suit an applicant searching for a 32 hour a week task (which may include some weekend days) and who could live in the Milton’s Cottage flat. Other arrangements without accommodation would be considered including payment on a consultancy basis. The suitable candidate will be articulate, administratively savvy and computer literate, with a background in member services and financial development. An interest in John Milton will be essential. For a full job description please contact info@miltonscottage.org. Candidates must submit a CV and covering letter to Milton’s Cottage Trust (CIO) at info@miltonscottage.org by the 30 October 2015. Interviews are likely to take place in Chalfont St Giles from mid November.
